Year 6 Grammar and Spelling Test introduced

From May 2013, changes are being made to the year six SATS. As well as the existing writing test, pupils will now also take an additional English grammar, punctuation and spelling test to assess their basic writing skills before they move on to secondary school. Teachers will also change their marking scheme, giving more specialised feedback on pupils writing in different aspects of writing such as the composition of letters or stories, rather than generic feedback on their overall writing ability. The test is in two papers; one 15-minute spelling assessment and a 45-minute grammar test.
