Karate for Kids and Adults – Pendle Karate

“The ultimate in self-defence” – the martial art of karate – is available to people of all ages in Pendle and your first lesson with Pendle Karate Academy is free + free Karate suit for new members (ask for details).

With the promise of “Karate 4 Kids” and “Karate 4 Everyone”, tuition at venues in Barnoldswick, Earby and Nelson is run by Khurshid Ismail, a black belt 3rd Dan with more than 35 years’ karate experience.

Khurshid has won medals at regional, national and international championship level, and is keen to pass the benefits of his experience to newcomers from five years old upwards. Karate is not just about self-defence, but also builds confidence, self-discipline and fitness. What’s more, it’s also fun.

Khurshid was a member of the Shukokai karate union(sku) for over 35 years. Where he learnt and has always trained in Shukokai karate. The style which was introduced to England in 1968 by the Japanese instructors sensei Tani and sensek Kimura. However, in order to further his knowledge of karate Khurshid is now a registered member of the Shukokai karate alliance(ska.) The Shukokai karate alliance combines Shukokai with shito-rye style. Shukokai originated shitu-rye style. The founder of modern Shukokai, the late sensei Tani was a student of shitu-rye karate. The ska unlike the sku gives its instructors the freedom to teach karate in their own unique way without any interference.

Pendle Karate Academy venues are:

  • Earby Youth and Community Centre, New Road, Fridays, 6.15pm to 7.15pm and Sundays 11.30am to 12.30pm;
  • West Craven Sports Centre, Kelbrook Road, Barnoldswick, Sundays 10.00am to 11.00am;
  • Walton Lane Community Centre, Leeds Rd, Nelson, Fridays 7.45pm to 8.45pm and Sundays 1.15 pm to 2.15 pm.

All instructors are insured, CRB checked, first-aiders, and the academy operates child protection, anti-bullying and health and safety policies.
