“Discover 2000 years of history through a labyrinth of interactive chambers beneath the Minster”
Whether you decide to discover Roman ruins, become a dragon hunter or create your own Noah’s Ark inspired animals – there’s plenty to keep you and the kids entertained at York Minster this summer.
The cathedral is running pop-up craft activities each Wednesday from the 2nd to the 30th August where families can enjoy creating clay grotesques, dragon puppets and butterfly mobiles, celebrating the theme of Noah’s Ark.
Special storytelling sessions and fun family-friendly tours of the cathedral will also run on the Wednesday activity days.
The crafts will take place in the cathedral’s awe-inspiring 13th century Chapter House and participants can drop in anytime between 10am and 3pm. There’s a different activity each week – visit www.yorkminster.org for full details.
In addition, families can enjoy exploring the Minster every day of the holidays.
The Revealing York Minster in the Undercroft attraction offers young adventurers the chance to discover 2000 years of history through a labyrinth of interactive chambers beneath the Minster.
Follow in the footsteps of Roman soldiers, see the 1000-year-old Horn of Ulf gifted by a Viking lord or try on robes like those used by the Archbishop and other clergy.
Back at ground level, young explorers can pick up a backpack filled with gadgets to help them explore the Minster, including binoculars, a magnifying glass and torch.
Youngsters can follow Monty the Monkey’s discovery trail to find things to see, hear, and touch around the Minster, including hunting dragons, spotting Monty among the faces in the Chapter House and finding the Minster’s regal creatures.
After a few hours exploring, families can relax by reading books from our Story Chest, or if you visit on a Wednesday morning, enjoy cake and refreshments at the pop-up cafe run by the York Minster Community held between 10am and 12.30pm.
